A portrait is an expression of love --

to someone dear to you . . .

It is a way to remember what

cannot be duplicated . . .

It is a record of the

present and the past

for the future . . .

It is all this and more in . . .

Lisa's Portraits

Lisa K. Garner/Photographer, Owner

Photography, I feel, should be more than a mere record of what is put before lens. As in any art form, it should convey mood, excitement, character, a depth of feeling, and expression. It is important, as the photographer, that I have an understanding of the reasons for the portrait, how it will be used, and the interests and personality of the subject so that a "portrait" and not just a picture will be achieved. I always take better portraits for my clients when I meet with them for a Planning Session to discuss what they want their portraits to express - when I find out what will make the portraits have emotional impact for them.

LISA K. GARNER

The statement above expresses my philosophy of what a portrait should be. It is on this basis that I continually strive to learn more about how to be a better portraiturist so I can make more pleasing, meaningful portraits for my clients, specializing in portraits made in the clients' own surroundings. I annually attend seminars and workshops held by the top professional photographers in the nation.

I have owned and operated Lisa's Portraits since 1981. I first got interested in photography in 8th grade when I started working on my small-town high school newspaper and yearbook. I found I had a talent and a love for photography.

I opened my first portrait studio in my Grandmother's extra living room. And then later worked completely on-location while I lived with my husband in married-student housing while I got a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Photography at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. I added studio portraits back to my repertoire when my family bought a house. When my family and business out grew that house, we bought a larger house that was ideally suited to include a portrait studio.

After operating Lisa's Portraits in Huntsville for eighteen years, my business had grown so much in The Woodlands area, that I opened another studio on Oak Ridge Drive in The Woodlands. My new studio in The Woodlands was also in a house because I like the home atmosphere. My family moved to The Woodlands a few months later and I closed the Huntsville Studio.

Three years after opening Lisa's Portraits in The Woodlands, we moved the Studio to a bigger house, where it is still located on Rye Street in The Woodlands. The new studio has a nice yard that is great for adding a few outdoor portraits to a studio session. But, even more than studio portraits, I take portraits in my clients' favorite outdoor locations, beautiful locations in and around The Woodlands, in their yards, and in their homes using their favorite possessions as props, making the portraits unique to each client.

Over the years I have tried to become the best portrait photographer I can be. In 1980 I joined the Texas Professional Photographer's Association and have been a member of the Professional Photographers of America since 1983. My education, experience and the seminars and workshops I attend, along with years of experience and listening to my clients has taught me a lot that has helped my photography grow over the years.
