About Lisa

Lisa Garner, Lisa's PortraitsPhotography, I feel, should be more than a mere record of what is put before the lens. As in any art form, it should convey mood, excitement, personality, character, a depth of feeling, and expression. It is important, as the photographer, that I have an understanding of the reasons for the portrait, how it will be used, and the interests and personality of the subject, so that a "portrait" and not just a picture will be achieved. LISA K. GARNER

The above statement expresses my philosophy of what a portrait should be. It is on this basis that I strive to learn more about about your vision of your portrait, your personalities, and your desires, so I can make more pleasing, meaningful portraits for you, specializing in portraits made exclusively in your own surroundings. I always take better portraits when I meet with my Client for a Planning Session to discuss what you want your portraits to express - when I find out what will make the portraits have emotional impact for you. I even come to you for the consultation. You can show me locations you would like and the clothing you are thinking about. You don't have to pack it all up and take it and your children anywhere.

How I Started

I have owned and operated Lisa's Portraits since 1981. I first got interested in photography in 8th grade when I started working on my small-town high-school newspaper and yearbook. I found I had a talent and a love for photography. I already knew I loved people, especially babies and children.

I opened my first portrait studio in my Grandmother's extra living room. And then later worked completely on-location while I lived with my husband in married-student housing while I got a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Photography at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. I added studio portraits to my repertoire when my family bought a house. When my family and business out grew that house, we bought a larger house that was ideally suited to include a portrait studio. The whole time I still took most of my portraits on-location.

After operating Lisa's Portraits in Huntsville for eighteen years, and working two years exclusively on-location for my Clients in The Woodlands, my business had grown so much in The Woodlands area, that I opened another studio on Oak Ridge Drive in The Woodlands. My new studio was also in a house because I like the home atmosphere. My family moved to The Woodlands a few months later and I closed the Huntsville Studio.

Lisa's Family PortraitThree years after opening Lisa's Portraits in The Woodlands, I moved the Studio to a bigger house, on Rye Street in The Woodlands. The new studio had a big yard where I could add a few outdoor portraits to a studio session. Yet, I spent most of my time going to my clients homes, yards, favorite parks and all the beautiful locations in The Woodlands and surrounding areas, using their favorite possessions as props, making the portraits unique to each client.

So, after eight and a half years on Rye Street, as of October 1, 2010, I am happy to once again be exclusively an on-location portrait photographer serving The Woodlands and Surrouding Areas. I come to you for everything, so you don't have to pack up anything, including your sleeping child. I come to you to have a private portrait planning consultation. I come to you to take your portraits, wherever you choose during the consultation. I come to you to project your portraits on your walls, or a screen if necessary, in all of the available sizes, and help you choose exactly what you will love and treasure for a lifetime. Then, I come to you to deliver your finished portraits and hang your wall portraits for you.

Couple's portrait in their home in The Woodlands, TXOver the years I have tried to become the best portrait photographer I can be. In 1980 I joined the Texas Professional Photographer's Association and have been a member of the Professional Photographers of America since 1983. I annually attend seminars and workshops held by the top professional photographers in the nation. My education, experience, and the seminars and workshops I attend, along with years of experience and listening to my clients has taught me a lot that has helped my photography grow tremendously, providing my clients with portraits that they treasure above all other posessions.

Whether it is in your home, your yard, or in any other beautiful or special location, I would love to assist you in creating your own Family Heirloom. I'd love to discuss with you what would MAKE a portrait be your Family-Treasure-For-A-Lifetime at a FREE, No-obligation in-the-comfort-of-your-own-home Planning Consultation. Call or e-mail me today, 281-419-7444 or lisa@lisasportraits.com .

Will Lisa Go to Other Cities or Parts of the Country?Family on a Puerto Rican Beach

I love to travel and see other places. If you want to have your portrait taken somewhere special that is far enough away to need to stay overnight, I will be glad to accommodate you. There is no extra "fee", but I do ask that you pay travel costs, lodging, and meals for me and one assistant. This way you get to have portraits somewhere unique to you and I get to see some place new.

Oh, if you have friends who would like to also have their portraits made in that area, if you schedule five or more sessions and collect their fees (get the fee info from me), then I will pay for my own travel and accommodations.
